Being innovative is a growth mindset, proactive attitude, courageous actions. Innovation leadership is in strong demand as organizations need to invest in the cultivation of capacity for innovation, recognize innovators with versatile talent and unique capabilities.

Ask insightful questions: With today’s digital convenience, knowledge is often only a click away, there is quality information and outdated knowledge; myths and truth coexist in such a complex world. Leaders no longer just provide answers and control situations only; innovative leaders are inquisitive, have a beginner’s mindset, frame insightful questions, encourage people to practice independent thinking and provide alternative answers with a fresh point.

As a matter of fact, more often, leaders should frame insightful questions. Asking questions tells us that we are still curious, still willing to learn, embrace broader perspectives, validate how thorough and deep your team's thinking is on a particular issue as well as understand the psychology behind innovation in order to achieve innovation excellence.

Appreciate invaluable feedback: Innovation is about exploring alternative ways to do things. Either doing innovation or solving critical business issues, lack of effective feedback management will deepen a variety of gaps and create decision blind spots. By improving quality and relevance of feedback, innovation leaders are open and inclusive; truly listen to what their people have to say about solving the issues identified, not let their own presumptions get in the way.

Innovative leaders can communicate their understanding and the contributions they expect of their parts of the organization to their teams and employees, close feedback gaps, build a diverse, dynamic, energetic, and innovative working environment in which people enjoy the creative tension and constructive feedback, integrate thinking, learning and doing into differentiated professional competency to spur creativity and nourish innovation.

Initiate healthy debate:
Environment either encourages or discourages innovation, the ease or difficulties inherent in surviving. What elements did past civilizations possess that added to innovation? Innovation for the sake of innovating is exhaustive because what would be the purpose? It should always be about solving problems and advancing human society.

Thus, innovation leaders explore critical thinking from a non-biased perspective to identify problems and spur innovative ideas by initiating healthy debates; help the business do more reflection by pondering deeper and understand things from multidimensional angles. There is an emotional cycle behind creativity; people need conflict to initiate, but after initiation, there should be a debate to create, persistence to implement ideas smoothly.

Leadership becomes more open and creative in the digital era, as the characteristics of innovative leadership show the following dispositions: visionary, curious, learning agile, insightful, competent, courageous, etc, they can see things differently, do things in alternative ways and walk the talk to build a highly innovative organization and an advanced society.
