IT can build sustainable business advantages by enabling both incremental innovation such as product/service update or process optimization, or breakthrough innovation such as the new business model or disruptive invention, etc.

IT enabled innovation is the integration of the invention into the real world process, delivery system, market, and large-scale supply, combining the invention technology into the other technology components in formulation of the innovative products/services/solutions. It’s important to evaluate IT impact of innovation/invention dynamics on tangible or intangible dimensions of high-innovative organization in order to keep improving IT innovation maturity and unleash the full potential of the organization.

In many organizations, IT creativity is struggling to occur and it is the reason many executives believe IT is not business aligned. Creativity is the core of what makes IT strategic in any company. If you weren't able to think creatively in IT, you would be floundering as much as those falling mighty organizations.
