Business architecture contains the organizational context and is strategic in that it gives direction to the business design and development, for shaping real-time, extensible, business systems.

Enterprises are inherently and intensely complex; there are unknown interactions and very high inner dynamics in complexity. Business architecture seeks to look through a variety of management disciplines, deepening understanding of business context through abstraction.

Its input can be used to direct resources and attention to strengthening business, making necessary tradeoffs, so that the organization’s mission, vision, and goals can be realized holistically.

Architecture & capability: A business architectural view bridges the “as is” and ”to be” state of the business, so it can evaluate enterprise capability via long term expansive lenses. When building the future state of the business, make sure that you break it down into looking at the ideal future first, followed by the practical capability view and assessment. Capability mapping with business capabilities determined by some of the stakeholders such as client, technical architect, business architect etc, can be an enormous help in understanding and prioritizing strategic goals, prioritizing and focusing on the “bigger picture.”

As capability enabled strategy has a significantly high success rate. Business architecture as a “big picture” capability instrument tool produces a list of remediation work that needs completing to integrate ingredients into business capability, recombine multiple capabilities into new capabilities, improve effectiveness of business capability development and management.

Architecture & Knowledge: Business leaders and professionals can use architecture as a clue of knowledge management in gaining a contextual understanding of the business, not just for knowledge collection, but for capturing business insight, classifying the crucial elements and knowing their linkage. The real value of business architecture is to balance multi-facet of facts and data, set priorities, and achieve a situational compromise or trade-off; enabling everyone in the organization to know the parts by managing the enterprise knowledge, and guiding change systematically

Thus, architecture could become a great tool in guiding through knowledge management, to ensure that the organization has the ability to apply the right kind of knowledge by the right people with the right attitude through wisdom & best practices. Effective business architecture aids in the business strategic planning and acts as an assurance of the quality of the strategy and contributes to improving a variety of business management disciplines.

Architecture & Innovation: The world becomes more dynamic, innovation is for renewal. Today's innovation has a broader scope including innovative process, business model, culture, communication, etc. Business management leverages business architecture as a tool to optimize innovation processes with expanded business boundaries, enabling information and idea flow by reducing tensions, frictions, and conflicts that arise, building innovative global organization. From a business long term strategic perspective, innovation is equivalent to sustainability and resilience for an increasing number of hyper-connected enterprises and industries.

The ultimate goal for innovation management is to create business value. Business architecture helps the management clarify innovation purpose, optimize innovation process and enable cross-boundary knowledge dots connection for generating ideas. Innovation Management is not a standardized process, alignment, alliance, architecture are all crucial elements to improve innovation success rate. Innovation can be on a platform level, in the value flow and value chain or in the ecosystem. An architecture can support such innovation only if it undergoes a paradigm shift.

Business architecture contains the organizational context and is strategic in that it gives direction to the business design and development, for shaping real-time, extensible, complex adaptive business systems. It is an effective tool for gaining visibility across the core business processes as well as helping to optimize business processes for improving business effectiveness and efficiency.
