Organizations are complex systems, which are composed, in part, of people who are also complex living systems. All such business systems function, grow and prosper by continually: learning, capability-development, and innovation. In fact, we are moving from the industrial era to the knowledge economy towards the creative economy, more and more innovation is a matter of survival in the long term for any organization and global society.

Organizational knowledge is the power to generate corporate value: Fundamentally, knowledge is the product of the brainpower, the power of knowledge can be released only when it’s used to create value and allows the intellectual organization of the sum total of collective knowledge. Many traditional organizations aren´t yet in the knowledge economy, they continue to act as expected in the economy of scarcity and live in the silos, continuing “we always do things like that” practices. Data, information, knowledge, insight and wisdom are the different stages of the knowledge cycle that organizations need to manage more effectively, organizing personal knowledge mastery and engaging with others collectively to build an intelligent organization, smart workforce, and reach the next level of knowledge economy.

Knowledge cannot be managed like other hard assets. Knowledge does not stand still, it needs to flow and transfer for achieving its business value. Knowledge is not an isolated fact but path-dependent. It means to discover an opportunity, you should have previous knowledge in the field to be able to get recognized for producing more knowledge. It take a holistic approach to process and update knowledge and use it to improve decision effectiveness, problem-solving competency. The value of knowledge assets directly impacts the value and competitiveness of the entire organization.

Learning agility is the prerequisite to knowledge fluency for building integral capabilities either individually or collaboratively: To survive in the information exponential digital era, learning becomes a knowledge builder and we can define learning through the information it absorbs, knowledge it acquires, and the capability it builds. People who are learning agile continuously seek new challenges, embrace feedback, self-reflect, and get the work done resourcefully. Solving complex business problems requires learning agility, leveraging interdisciplinary knowledge and insight, taking end-to-end structural and iterative approaches.

From information management to capability development, a systematic knowledge management solution needs to be explored; evolving working with knowledge, refining information, capturing insight, winning foresight, and gaining perspectives, plus setting a new behavior expectation for active knowledge participants. In the organizational level, learning agility directly impacts on the top line of growth and the strategic capability development such as change and innovation. Organizations can work toward a knowledge ecosystem view that incorporates the holistic aspects of the knowledge management to improve organizational learning agility and build differentiated business competencies.

In order to move forward from a knowledge economy to a creative economy, keep recycling knowledge, recirculating imagination, and reinventing the future innovatively: In the ever-evolving knowledge economy, creativity and analytics actually are the “hybrid truth,” to disrupt the “we always do things like that” mentality. Knowledge boosts imagination, imagination challenges the limitation of knowledge, rejuvenates creative energy, the right combination of imagination and knowledge helps you understand how and what forces you are dealing with on the journey of innovation or transformative progress.

We are in the knowledge economy, but many people try to close the information, as they have difficulties to share ideas, different thoughts & opinions. Organizations should build a creative working environment, enabling people through knowledge sharing in the process of generating new ideas and great value, facilitating and amplifying collective creativity. Business leaders and professionals are creative workers who should enjoy learning, sometimes, putting aside all those trained thoughts and boxes, embrace diverse viewpoints, and be resourceful to catalyze innovation.

Due to fierce competitions and information exponentiation, innovation is the only way to build the long-term business advantage. There are many ways to differentiate and, therefore, there are many ways to pursue innovation.
