The Monthly “Thinkingaire” Book Tuning: Inspiring Innovative Mindsets Oct. 2020

Innovators have many traits such as vision, passion, determination, dedication, confidence, disobedience, and resilience, etc.

Many organizations are doing digital - applying digital gadgets or taking a few business initiatives. But very few are being digital - move to the high level of digital maturity with a cohesive strategy and a holistic approach. The fundamental difference is the digital mind shift.

In addition to the set point changing, transformation requires first shifting mindsets and then building new skills, capabilities, and reinforcing and embedding new practices/reflexes.

Inspiring Innovative Mindsets

The Creative State of Mind As the world stepped into the hyper-connected digital era, the ultra-modern mindsets need to be crafted in continuous driving mankind progression and spurring the next level of innovation. Creativity today asks for a new mindset, a connected world image, global consciousness, and cognitive intelligence; allowing "the creative flow" to open up for information abundance. The creative state of mind may not bound to any one 'mindset' but should be free to be expressed wherever it may pop up if that makes sense, it has the following characteristics:

A lightbulb - Like Mind For many, innovation is serendipity, even for the neuroscientist, human’s mind is still serendipitous, so the puzzle of such a puzzle would be: What’s a creative mind look like? Is it like a lightbulb (a classic analog of innovation), keep flashing or sparkling?

Three “U” Traits in Innovators Innovation is about figuring out the better ways to do things. Innovation is an exceptional, exclusive, and realistic idea that separates you from others without a second thought. Being innovative is a state of mind to think and do things from new perspectives. Innovators are the rare breed, but they are around us and within us.

The “PURE” Traits of Digital Innovators Innovators have many traits such as vision, passion, determination, dedication, confidence, disobedience, and resilience, etc. Innovators are not compromised with mediocrity or conventional wisdom, they get less polluted by negative vibes, discover new possibilities and better ways to do things. They focus on thinking positively and creatively because being creative is a way of thinking, of imagining, of expression, of perceiving things, of inventing, of inspiring, etc. Great innovators have such “PURE” traits to refine their character and stand out from the crowd.

Three Questions to Assess a Person’s “Out-of-the-Box” Thinking Ability Every mind has a certain box, some smaller, some bigger. The box starts set-up at a very early age, by your surroundings, the media you followed, the books you read, the education you received, the people you interacted with and the standards by which you lived. The "boxes" are the walls in your mind. Walls in your mind are constructed by the society's conditioning and rules imposed by influencers. However, the box keeps changing, in today's competitive environment, what was outside the box yesterday, may not be such today. Our thinking has to continuously evolve, adapt, and prepare for change. Which questions should you ask to assess a person’s “Out-of-box” thinking ability?

The “Future of CIO” Blog has reached 3.5 million page views with about #7200th blog posting in 59+ different categories of leadership, management, strategy, digitalization, change/talent, etc. The content richness is not for its own sake, but to convey the vision and share the wisdom. Blogging is not about writing, but about thinking and innovating the new ideas; it’s not just about WHAT to say, but about WHY to say, and HOW to say it. It reflects the color and shade of your thought patterns, and it indicates the peaks and curves of your thinking waves. Unlike pure entertainment, quality and professional content takes time for digesting, contemplation and engaging, and therefore, it takes time to attract the "hungry minds" and the "deep souls." It’s the journey to amplify diverse voices and deepen digital footprints, and it's the way to harness your innovative spirit.
