Innovationlogic

Every meaningful thing has logic in it. Innovation logic is often nonlinear and multipath.

The essence of innovation is about how to manage people, assets, and resources to meet the business goals for innovation. Business logic behind innovation uncovers why you need to do innovation, who the innovators are and how to meet the customers’ needs, solving problems creatively.

Effective innovation management requires a variety of logic as the hidden clue, the fit process as part of the holistic innovation system and people as innovation masters.

Interactive logic: Creativity is consciousness with a sort of logic that allows one to see how all things can be both connected or disconnected to create completely new forms, ideas, or systems. The original germ of a creative idea often arrives at the interaction of ideas from different domains of thought and experience, or information without boundary. There is more flow of creative ideas, the more is happening, the pie gets bigger. The interactive logic is just so simple; the meaningful interactions stimulate idea generation and sharing; cross-boundary communication and collaboration harness innovation by transforming great ideas to achieve their value.

Collaboration based on interactive logic is a fundamental part of what ultimately fueled the inspiration, imagination and innovation. Innovations simply benefit from being developed in, and subsequently commercialized in a more open ecosystem. The emerging digital technologies, collaboration platforms and tools harness the spontaneity of people-centric interactions, facilitate creative conversations that galvanize inspiration and gain traction on a powerful theme of renewal and growth. Organizations engage in multi-industrial collaborations, and draw together mutually supportive companies from multiple industries that collectively seek to create the differentiated value they could not reach alone.

Retrosynthetic logic: Innovation is a managed process, it often involves some ‘backward' management discipline for the "lesson learned." Creating is being able to think backward (from product or outcome of components) and forwards (from materials or resources at hand) at the same time. Innovation retrosynthesis describes the process of planning a synthesis backward, by starting at the ideal products; the “target,” and then taking it back a step at a time. It starts with what you want to see or have; then, think backward from there to what the next simpler step is; and then back to what are the next simpler components, back to what you have at hand.

Innovation is complex, the multiple perspectives of innovative problem-solving include scope, status, talent (creative mindset), resources, processes, information technology, etc. It is important to leverage varying processes such as analysis, synthesis, and retrosynthesis at the different phases of innovation management, creating hypotheses and prove them; then back to what are the next simpler components, and then, back to what they have at hand. Strong retrosynthetic logic clarifies innovation process, procedures, technologies at every stage, also enables innovation implementers to “keep the end” in mind, making innovation more scientific than serendipitous.

Paradoxical logic: In today's world with complexity, uncertainty, and ambiguity, all wisdom has some paradoxical themes. There are creative people in almost every profession. A paradoxical mindset can reframe the new box to spur creativity. People with creative wisdom can leverage multidimensional thought processes such as emergent, divergent, convergent, and generative, etc, to bridge the gap between vision and reality and create energy for fusing creativity. It’s also important to use different tools and follow a well-defined process in which divergent or convergent thinking can transform novel ideas to achieve business value.

Creative personality seems to be more paradoxical, demonstrating the hybrid traits of being knowledgeable and playful; confident and humble; passionate and cool-headed; artistic and scientific, expressive and quiet, etc. Creative people have paradoxical personalities, they not only take the conscious application of what they know, and at the same time stay open to the unknown, so creative thinking and knowledge can emerge. Business leaders or professionals with high paradoxical intelligence can keep the state of psychological balance with the right dose of ego, see things from different angles and understand the situation profoundly.

Every meaningful thing has logic in it. Innovation logic is often nonlinear and multipath. Every organization needs to develop tailored innovation principles, methodologies, practices by leveraging effective logic, technologies, tools or methodologies and apply them wisely with the expertise to really add value or drive innovation and develop the organizational level innovation competency.
