Creativity is an influence; by manifesting creativity from an individual endeavor to a team activity and a collective effort, the horizon of creativity is expanded and the collective creative potential can be unleashed.
Creative expansion cannot happen without imagination, passion, participation and cross disciplinary knowledge. There are quite a few parameters that need to be assessed for reaching the high level of creative maturity.
Attitude: Creativity is both natural and nurtured; attitude matters, as it refines one’s commitment to creativity, understanding the circumstance profoundly, practicing deep listening skills, and asking thoughtful questions. Self-reflection and learning attitude are crucial to discover your innate strength, knowing oneself comes from the practice of actively and intentionally being present to relate to, see all the different parts of oneself and how they operate. When people are inspired to discover who they are, they are often on a unique path to develop their creativity and shape a growth mindset.
We all should broaden the points of interest and try new things to develop creativity, empty the mindset of how things are "usually" solved, and become more open-minded to experiment with different ways to do things and have the risk tolerance attitude to explore many possibilities. When people have a positive attitude, open-minded, have the proper psychological level of inner security, genuine autonomy, willingly to share ideas, and get involved with commitment, they are more confident to move the ideas forward, increase the chance to create values and cultivate the culture of creativity.
Logic: Most people perhaps think creativity and logic are opposite; as creativity is more intuitive and serendipitous; while logic is more analytic and informative. In fact, creativity and logic are actually the “hybrid truth”; discovering the "truth" requires some logical analysis to understand multiple opinions and emotions which trigger creativity. Creativity is often about connecting the wider dots across disciplinary domains while logic is perhaps the very clue hidden in it. The right dose of “gut feeling” supported by good logic enables us to capture the flash of ideas or unique insight.
Creativity is an innate process with multidimensional thinking that generates unusual combinations of ideas or insight. Logic enables us to see underneath the surface, and unpuzzle the myth of creativity. Creativity is not lack of intelligence; actually creative people consciously use different kinds of thought processes that hold onto their natural connectivity while being prepared to connect the dots even in the opposite direction should they make sense to generate fresh ideas and create business value.
Intuition: Intuition is called gut-feeling; often it is used to describe thoughts and preferences that come to mind quickly and without much reflection or conscious reasoning. Thus, it is often conceived as a kind of inner perception sometimes regarded as lucidity or understanding. To be creative, you need to be conscious, curious about things that surround you; you also need to be conscious and engaged with both the inner world of thought, feeling, choice, and the exterior world of experience and relationship.
Intuitive is a sort of gut-feeling when there isn’t an exact answer to the puzzle because you don’t have all the pieces. Creativity is triggered by intuition, it requires to step away from the normal noises, listen to your heart, follow your guts, be curious enough to question and experiment, and let creative thoughts flow. In fact, sometimes intuition and creativity converge when we have such “aha” moments at which it seems the new ideas are created intuitively; or the fresh insights are unveiled suddenly via a new angle; etc; so creativity becomes part of gut feeling thing and intuition is an important ingredient in spurring creativity.
Simplicity: Simplicity is the premium level of complexity; going simplicity is often a necessary step for practicing creativity in a progressive journey. Going simple is not easy for most people because often there are a set of complex or even contradictory rules or traditions in the societies that people follow manually or voluntarily to get things complicated instead of simplifying. But by nature of creativity, it is about breaking down some outdated rules so the fresh ideas emerge. Simplicity means fewer layers and high fluidity. Simplicity is a behavioral attitude to see things as and what and where they are and be content and cool as it is.
To get “just right” simplicity, you would have to address the complexities of the subject matter and have the minimum required complexity to enforce clarity. Creative people have an intellectual curiosity to question the unknown out of fear, leverage multidimensional thought processes to decode complexity, advocate clarity and transparency, and follow the simplicity principle for developing delightful products or services with “easy to use” features from customers’ perspectives. Progress is in simplification, which often follows complexity. The interaction between these two parts of our existence is the home of our creativity.
Humility: Creativity is at the intersection of consciousness and subconsciousness; confidence and humility. Be confident to try and test; be humble with a beginner's mind to ask questions and stimulate creativity. Humility is not about being unsure or afraid to try new ways to do things. Rather, it speaks to a person’s openness to feedback, learning and continuous improvement. In fact, the clear manifestation of intellectual curiosity is to ask good questions, open questions, profound questions, or thought-provoking questions.
Humility allows one to understand oneself, understand others, strike the balance of being confident and being humble. If you are humble, you are open to learn both about yourself, others and love new ideas and fresh perspectives. Talking and actively listening to one another also creates excitement which propels good ideas to be formed. You can empty your mind of how things are "usually" solved, practice deep listening skills, and understand the circumstance profoundly. In this way, you are able to be assertive and stay the course.
To connect wide dots for triggering creativity, do not always follow conventional wisdom or preconceived opinions, become an independent thinker and fast learner, continue updating knowledge and gaining fresh insight. Creativity is an influence; by manifesting creativity from an individual endeavor to a team activity and a collective effort, the horizon of creativity is expanded and the collective creative potential can be unleashed. In fact, the condition of being human is the endless search for the conditions that allows the human to unlock creative potential and bring the human's dreams alive in the shared reality we call life.
