Solid governance discipline will allow not only to protect the existing value but also to create new value for its shareholders and improve their satisfaction.

Governance refers to direction and guidance. Sound governance is to improve the management effectiveness and eliminate risks. There are varying degrees of understanding of the concept of governance and there is the distinction between corporate governance responsibilities and management responsibilities. 

It’s important to clarify and enhance governance with organization roles and responsibilities. To what extent is Senior Management involved for governance at various levels - Corporate Governance, Technology Governance, Architecture Governance etc.

Corporate Governance is an internal control to monitor the path of strategy execution: Strong governance disciplines enforce the ability to revisit and reinforce what you have, putting into management processes consistently before moving on to new phases. Business Architecture can be used as a multidisciplinary effective governance tool and an enabling vehicle that provides a platform for determining sound corporate attitude, behavior and structured decision-making for improving business maturity.

Corporate governance is a guidance system for achievement of planned strategic business objectives. It is where resources are allocated to turn the strategy into a reality. There should be a governance mechanism embedded in all crucial business processes, there are governance practices to enforce accountability at every level of the organization. And there are varying governance activities such as delegation of authority, auditing, or strategy monitoring, etc.

IT governance: Information technology is the glue to integrate all crucial business components into differentiated business competency. IT governance’s magic lies in guiding an organization from beginning to maturity, ensuring business management effectiveness. Good IT governance takes into consideration the organization's ability to absorb more change or invest more in technology, as well as IT ability to execute the changes requested. Governance is for enabling, not for stopping the corporate vehicle. Those organizations that feel stifled by governance may not have matured beyond operational risk and control.

IT governance enforcement starts with understanding business as the dynamic complex and adaptive system. Unpredictability, uncertainty and the probability of surprising emergent properties increase with the complexity of the systems. Effective IT Governance has innovation built into harness innovation. The willingness of the organization to want to implement IT governance together with an understanding of what it entails is important to increase IT effectiveness that further improves the maturity of the entire organization.

Business Architecture Governance:
Business Architecture Governance is a discipline that guides how an enterprise ensures or enforces Enterprise Architecture disciplines. It deals with how the architecture is developed, managed, shared, monitored, verified, updated, or checked for standards compliance, etc. Enterprise architecture governance enhances business rules, legal requirements (such as data protection), operational requirements rules, financial compliance, so governance in this instance is items that influence the architecture relationships or other components options, to improve overall enterprise architecture practicality and maturity. 

A Governance Model is an architectural description that addresses the concerns of the stakeholders who want to ensure that the strategy execution is aligned with intents. On a maturity model, if overall IT governance is at a level 1, then the governance of architectural decisions cannot sustainably exceed maturity level 2. The rest of the organization will literally unravel any achievements that are too far advanced for their ability to improve organizational manageability.

 Uncertainties and complexity are a common occurrence in any walk of our progress, be it social, organizational or professional. Governance is a sophisticated process that if well executed at the different levels of organizational hierarchy, will lead to decision coherence and business effectiveness. Solid governance discipline will allow not only to protect the existing value but also to create new value for its shareholders and improve their satisfaction.
