Seek unity of goals and unity of effort.

Interdependence and hyperdiversity are the very characteristics of the organization. To unify common beliefs, bridge differences, and explore the emerging trends, the management needs to embrace diverse viewpoints, open up the tensions to ensure that things can be resolved, and take an interdisciplinary approach to drive changes, for reaching a state of unity and harmony.

Unity in variety: Everyone is unique, there are all kinds of differences that exist between individuals, teams, companies, or industries. If there is unity of purpose while there are different viewpoints, it’s important to integrate views and thoughts, harness cross-functional communication & collaboration with a purpose of unity. The more we trust, the less we need to control each other.

Sometimes, practicing empiricism should help to resolve certain conflict issues. But more often than not, organizations need to understand their diverse people at the mindset level, and know the psychology behind the changes. So learning agile and interdisciplinary approaches are critical to build high performance teams with trustful relationships, producing higher than expected results consistently. The essence of the beautiful thing is unity in variety.

Unity brings strength; bridges differences: Most organizations that get stuck at the lower level of maturity are often divided by silo, ineffective organizational structures or processes, speed discrepancy, functioning as the sum of pieces rather than a holistic system. Many departments are perhaps dysfunctional in different ways due to misalignment of people, process, or technology, culture, etc. The business management needs to clarify confusion via asking insightful questions, build a conductive organizational climate to unify differences, and build high performance business.

To unify and close a variety of gaps, organizational management needs to pay more attention to respecting the diversified point of view, creating shared mission and common-understood goals, and then, encouraging the teams to compete and collaborate as they deem fit; moving energy to a higher level by offering a clear vision of what is possible. How successful organizations can handle difficulties depends on how fast and capable they can lubricate relationships, optimize complexity, improve business agility.

Imagine, evaluate, engage to achieve intrinsic unity: If a bunch of people are working in a team towards the common goal, there will be conflicts which are often caused by misunderstanding, unhealthy competition, and excessive emotional involvement. How to handle it effectively is art and science. Analyze how things actually work, the cause and effect relationships, and how performance is actually being generated.

Business management processes should be developed to help communicate objects and concepts smoothly and drive changes by the "pulling" factor and anticipating with unity. Teams with complementary mindset and skills, competitive spirit, can operate effectively, compete constructively and collaborate cross-functionally to unify the differences and amplify performance.

It’s important to unify the criteria to assess change and measure change outcome smoothly. Seek unity of goals and unity of effort. Unify people’s differences, enforce trust, transparency, respect, ensure the business ecosystem is able to communicate, negotiate, reciprocate, and cooperate to harness change and lead transformative changes.
